Chef Jan and her husband, C.E., started Jan Can in 2008. After raising 7 children together, and never the type of people content to sit around, they have been busy building their business into a multifaceted organization. Their business is rooted in their family values, so when you partner with Jan’s on 4th, you are partnering with family, not to mention an incredibly skilled staff.
Jan is a native New Mexican who is a Personal Chef, Caterer, and owner of Jan’s On 4th Cooking School in Albuquerque. Throughout her culinary career, Jan has been able to help adults and kids grow in their culinary experiences whether cooking food, being confident in the kitchen or just enjoying exceptional food.
Jan first started as a Personal Chef in 2004. As a Personal Chef, she prepares meals for her clients based on her monthly menu and within their dietary restrictions. Clients will order online and she delivers the meals directly to their homes. Jan continues being a Personal Chef today and loves the personal interaction with her clients, especially the elderly.
Jan opened Jan’s on 4th Cooking School in 2009 in a renovated 100 year old adobe home on 4th Street in Albuquerque. With the opening of the cooking school, Jan was able to do a personal one-on-one approach to cooking. She loves doing cooking classes for beginners, kids and private classes for special occasions – in addition to her calendar of classes.
One interesting fact about Jan’s on 4th is that all of the seasonal produce comes from their home garden. Her husband, CE, is a gifted gardener (in addition to the baker) and produces as much of the produce as possible. The best ingredients make the best food!

Before becoming the head baker at Jan’s on 4th, C.E. designed and built custom adobe homes. His artistry and craftsmanship are second to none. He has taken the skills that made him a renown builder and focused them in a different direction, and the results speak for themselves.
C.E. bakes all of the cakes, pies, breads, and desserts that you hear people raving about after an event with Jan’s on 4th. He also teaches the Baking & Dessert class with Jan.
Jan’s on 4th home of operations is located in the North Valley of Albuquerque inside of an adobe home more than 100 years old. After the property was acquired, C.E. resurrected the building and converted to a state of the art commercial kitchen with a distinct New Mexican feel. The kitchen is used for preparing all food items, hosting cooking classes, and is also available for rental if your group would like an intimate setting for your next meeting or event.
